Tree giveaway is part of Arbor Day celebration mariwinn
Updated: 2011-05-03 09:32:07
Two Joplin R-8 elementary school students help plant a tree in Parr Hill Park, Kansas at 18th Street. The tree planting was part of the 2011 Arbor Day celebration on April 29, 2011, that also recognized Joplin as a Tree City USA Community and commended Empire District Electric Company for becoming a Tree Line USA utility for the second consecutive year. As part of the event members of the Missouri Department of Conservation were on hand to offer suggestions in tree selection and planting. Members of the community went home with their choice of one of a variety of trees specifically selected for growth in southwest Missouri, including American yellowwood, Carolina silverbells, Eastern redbud. fringetree and smoke tree. The complimentary trees were provided by Empire on a first come-first served basis.
