Children's Mercy unveils new air transport  mariwinn
Updated: 2012-06-19 13:23:08
"Just for Kids" is a new kind of transport plane introduced at Mizzou Aviation at the Joplin Airport on June 13, 2012. The fixed wing Beechcraft King Air Super 200 was recently put into service by the Critical Care Transport of Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics of Kansas City, Missouri. Designed to transport two critically ill pediatric or neonatal patients simultaneously for a greater distance than 120 miles from Kansas City, the plane can travel 280 mph and is a better alternative to helicopter transport during inclement weather. The team consists of, in part, a neonatologist, pediatric internist, and pediatric nurse who handle congenital heart problems, traumatic accident victims, respiratory problems and patients needing certain surgeries. The interior supports an isolette incubator and has space for one accompanying parent. It was made "kid friendly" by Don Ross (AKA "Scribe") who used a free hand airbrush to decorate the exterior. For more information contact Sherry McCool, RRT-NPS, MHA, CTE, director of Critical Care Transport Services at (816) 983-6552 or e-mail smccool@cmh.edu. The number for dispatch is (800) 466-3729.
