Updated: 2012-01-15 12:53:16
Living Arts of Tulsa has announced that its 19th Annual New Genre Festival will take place from February 17 until March 3, 2012. It brings to the area the work of the nation's captivating and thought-provoking contemporary visual and performing artists in contemporary dance, performance art and multidisciplinary installations who also will offer free workshops representative of their performances to all patrons.

Highlights of the festival will include an award-winning production of “Home-Made” by Portland artists “tEEth;” a collaborative installation, “You Complete Me” by Wichita artists; a live improvisation of video and dance directed by Charles Woodman working with local Tulsa dance talent; a performance/installation by artist Erica Mott and an inflatable sculpture presentation by artist Benjamin Entner. Venues include: the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, Living Arts of Tulsa (Living Artspace) and Nightingale Theatre.

Scheduled are:

  • Week 1 (Feb 17-18, 2012) – “Home Made,” two dance performances by contemporary dance/performance art company “tEEth”. An exploration of the complexities of a relationship fueled by autobiographical experiences spanning the creators’ 14-year relationship with each other.

  • Week 2 (Feb 22-26, 2012) – “Live Cinema” by New York City/Tulsa artist “EYE 4 EYE,” a thought provoking and riveting collaboration with the Tulsa Opera and “You Complete Me,” a collaborative installation that speaks to today’s technological world.

  • Week 3 (Feb 27-Mar 3, 2012) – internationally-acclaimed artist introducing his inflatable sculpture installation at Living Artspace and “Cathedral Of Emptiness & Interiosity” by Philadelphia video/performance artist. The festival will come to a close with new work in an evening “Cabaret” showcasing local talent.
