| JEFFERSON CITY - The 2011 Missouri Governor's Conference on Tourism kicks off with an inaugural "Missouri Golf Day" from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on October 11, 2011, at the Jefferson City Country Club, 516 S. Country Club Dr. The tournament will get underway with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. Tournament participants will have the opportunity to win a 2012 Chevy Cruze courtesy of Riley Chevrolet of Jeff City for scoring a hole-in-one on a designated hole.
Open to the public, this event features Major League Baseball Hall of Famer and Gateway PGA Foundation president, Ozzie Smith and CEO of the PGA of America, Joe Steranka. Officials from the Missouri Golf Association will unveil an economic impact study spearheaded by the World Golf Foundation outlining how important golf is to Missouri.
Free activities include watching the scramble-style golf tournament (there is a fee for players with all proceeds benefiting the foundation of the PGA Gateway Section, Chesterfield, MO), a golf lesson from a PGA certified professional and an after school clinic for kids. Other golf-related activities are still under consideration, including trying out available golf equipment and awarding of prizes for just attending.
