Artwork wanted for contest and auction

Artwork is needed for the Sweet Arts Gala Dinner, Dance and Auction sponsored by the Neosho Arts Council. The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the Neosho Civic Center, 109 W. Main St., Neosho and will feature music by the Jack Mitchell Big Band and dinner catered by Timbered-in-catering of Grove, Oklahoma. A snow date is planned for March 1. Admission is $50 per person.

For the contest a total of $900 in cash will be awarded, including $300 for best of show, $200 for first place in 2D and 3D categories and $100 for second place in 2D and 3D categories.

Sponsoring artists--those wanting to donate all sale proceeds to benefit the council--and participating artists--those receiving proceeds from the live and silent auctions less commission--are encouraged to participate. A juror will select a total of 25 pieces for the live auction with the remaining pieces to be offered for sale in the silent auction.

The deadline for delivery of artwork to the Chamber of Commerce, 216 W. Spring St., Neosho; Local Color Art Gallery, 1027 S. Main St. (Gryphon Building), Joplin or Cherry's Art & Framing, 311 S. Main (west side of the square), Carthage is 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10.

Attached to the artwork should be whether the art is from sponsoring or participating artists, contact information, type of artwork including title, medium and full price (with caveat that it will be sold for at least 50 per cent of asking price or 80 per cent of selling price, which ever is greater). A short introduction should include type of medium, title, your name and city/state, philosophy and galleries in which you have shown.
