Suspect in DAV robbery is captured

UPDATE

On November 2, 2010 the suspect in the DAV Thrift Store Robbery, Stephen Agee, was taken into custody in Tulsa, OK by the U.S. MarshalsNorthern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force.

The Joplin Police Department had contacted the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Springfield, MO to assist with locating the suspect. They were able to determine that the suspect was in the Tulsa, OK area. Agencies assisting in the apprehension of Stephen Agee besides the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Springfield and the U.S. MarshalsNorthern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force in Tulsa were the Springfield Police Department and the Joplin Police Department.

It is unknown if there will be any charges filed in the Tulsa, OK area.

On October 21st, 2010, the Jasper County prosecutors office filed charges against Stephen N. Agee, pictured, for 1st degree robbery and armed criminal action in the armed robbery of the Disabled Veterans Thrift Shop on October 12, 2010. Agee's bond has been set at $50,000 for the robbery and $10,000 for the armed criminal action.

The Newton County prosecutors office filed charges on October 15, 2010 against Agee for attempted felony assault on a law enforcement officer with a $50,000 bond. This had occurred on October 14, 2010 when Joplin detectives developed Agee as a suspect in the robbery. When a Newton County deputy and Joplin detectives tried to stop Agee in a vehicle, he fled. When a Joplin detective went to deploy stop sticks, Agee made an attempt to run him over with his vehicle.

Agee so far has been able to elude capture. His last known address was in the Springfield, MO area. He is known to frequent casinos. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is encouraged to call the Joplin Police Department at (417) 623-3131 or your local law enforcement. Agee is considered armed and dangerous and contact with him should be avoided.

On October 12th, 2010 at approximately 9:57 p.m., officers with the Joplin Police Department were dispatched to 1201 E. 7th at the Disabled Veterans Thrift Store (DAV) for an armed robbery that had just occurred.

Employees stated that a male subject came into the store and displayed a black handgun and demanded money. The suspect was described as a white male, 6'0" to 6'1", 250 lbs. He was wearing a dark shirt, green hat with Guinness on it, and a black bandanna. Suspect was also described as wearing some type of athletic shoes.

Suspect left the store on foot and ran between the DAV and the business to the east.
