Joplin Police Blotter: Fatality accident

On May 30, 2013 at 12:41 p.m. hours, the Joplin Police Department responded to a single vehicle crash in the 3100 block of S. Connecticut Avenue (curve near Suzanne's).

A 1989 Dodge Dakota was traveling southbound on Connecticut occupied by two people. The vehicle lost control and crossed the northbound lanes in a skid. As a result the vehicle struck the curb and rolled which caused the unrestrained passenger to be partially ejected from the vehicle.

The passenger, identified as Danielle Hardesty, a 24 year old female from Webb City, was transported to Freeman West Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver, identified as Stephen McKeehan, 24 year old male from Joplin, was treated and released at the scene of the crash. The driver was arrested for involuntary manslaughter is currently in custody at the City of Joplin Jail awaiting formal charges to be filed through the Jasper County Prosecutors Office. Alcohol is believed to be a factor for the cause of this crash.

The Joplin Police Departments Major Crash Response Team, is still conducting their investigation of the crash. More information will be released later.
