I have watched the Wal-Mart mentality pretty much ruin Southwest Missouri. I grew up here, left the area and recently came home.
I was appalled at the condition of the rivers, and the near ghost towns of communities like Goodman, Anderson, etc.
Efforts to save the rivers have failed; the MoDNR either does not have the authority or is already in someone's back pocket. (I can't even find water quality records after 2004.)
I would like the departments of health in Jasper, Newton and McDonald counties simply to post signs at river access points and along parallel river roadways that the rivers are too contaminated to use. Possibly this will get the right people involved, the voters.
