Maple Leaf organizer encourages foat entries nmyers
Updated: 2012-06-21 13:48:11
Carthage – The 46th Annual Maple Leaf Parade applications and regulations are now available at the Carthage Chamber of Commerce, 402 S. Garrison. The Maple Leaf committee invites all area businesses and residents to build a traditional float for this year’s parade to be held starting at 9 a.m on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012.

Festival Chairperson Jeanine Poe says “We sincerely hope that this year, parade entrants will embrace the theme of ‘From Tradition to Today’ with classic floats or decorations on their entries, so we are offering a cash prize of $250 to the best traditional float entry”.

The $250 cash prize donated by the Maple Leaf Car Show will be given to the Special Recognition winning float entry that most exemplifies the theme of “From Tradition to Today” and includes specific traditional elements such as sheeting, garlands, fringe, costumes, parade pomps (decorative tissue paper), lights and scenes. The winning entry will also receive an etched marble award from Locarni Marble.

Additional recognition includes the Sweepstakes Award granted to the “most outstanding” unit of the parade, the Chamber’s Choice Award given to the float that promotes the Carthage area and image of the festival, the Artistic Achievement Award for the float that surpasses all others in artistic value and creativity, and the Community Image Awards given to an adult group and youth group entered by not-for-profits that promote good will and community pride.

All festival applications may be found here. For more information, contact Mary Jo at the Carthage Chamber of Commerce, (417) 358-2373.
