Pope's message is commendable
December 23, 2012
To the editor:

Regarding Pope Benedict XVIs Christmas address, December 21, 2012: I commend Pope Benedict XVI for strongly denouncing homosexuality and same-sex marriage in his annual Christmas address.

This new gender ideology which is increasingly being imposed on society by Western governments, undermines the fundamental understanding of what it means to be a human. In seeking to make every individual completely autonomous, it destroys the understanding of the family as a community designed for the rearing of children. In this radical new understanding of sexuality, children lose their own rights and become mere objects of adult possession.

God created male and female. From the Emperor cult of ancient Rome to the totalitarian regimes of the last century, to the politically correct governments of today, Caesar has tried to take the place of God. We have to resist this politicisation of religion and the deification of temporal power.

The Christmas birth of Christ challenges us to reassess our priorities, our values, our very way of life.
