JEFFERSON CITY – Joplin residents Don Long and Eric Dayringer were recently honored during a ceremony in the Missouri House of Representatives as part of the Missouri Veterans Commission’s 75th Anniversary celebration this year.

At left, Rep. Daniel Day (R-148) congratulates veteran Eric Dayringer holding an award given to him at a House ceremony commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Missouri Veterans Commission. At right is veteran Don Long who received the same honor.

In a program titled “A Grateful Nation Remembers,” Long and Dayringer, along with 55 other Missouri Veterans were recognized on the House Chamber floor and received a House Resolution honoring them for their selfless sacrifice and brave service to our country.

Long joined the United States Navy in 1955 and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1976. He currently serves as Administrator of the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon.

Dayringer served in the Missouri Army National Guard from 1989 to 1995. As a member of the 135th Army Band he was deployed in 1994 for the 50th Anniversary D-Day Celebration in England and France.

“Even though Memorial Day has passed, we should continue to reflect on the sacrifice and bravery of all Veterans who have answered history’s call with honor, decency, and resolve,” stated Pat Rowe Kerr, State Veterans Ombudsman with the Missouri Veterans Commission.

The Missouri Veterans Commission is a state agency committed to honoring and serving Missouri’s Veterans whose dedication and sacrifices have preserved our nation and its freedoms.
