BlueCurrent Credit Union announces merger
August 18, 2012
BluCurrent Credit Union with a branch in Joplin at 2007 S. Sergeant, has announced that they will merge with Greater Ozarks Community Credit Union (GOCCU). This will result in expanding BluCurrents network to six branches across southwest Missouri, serving nearly 20,000 members with over $140 million in assets. The Joplin branch is the former Postal Federal Community Credit Union.

The merger, which already has received approval from the Missouri Division of Credit Unions and the National Credit Union Administration, is scheduled to be finalized on August 31, 2012. Upon completion, GOCCU will operate under the BluCurrent name and their existing employees will be retained.

In recent months, it has become increasingly difficult to provide ever changing financial products and services to our members and maintain a competitive edge within todays regulatory environment, noted Al Wagner, chairman of the board. We are excited to make this transition.

GOCCUs current branch at 2363 W. Division will remain open until BluCurrent finalizes their new location on the northwest corner of Kearney and Kansas Expressway, which will open in early fall.

The heart of a credit union is the members and the communities where they live, said Steve Pierson, president and CEO. In approaching this merger, our highest priority is to continue providing our members with superior added value through strong financial leadership and an improved branch presence where they live and work.

BlueCurrent is Springfield's largest credit union with over $140 million in assets. In addition to Joplin, the GOCCU current branch and the one under construction at 1607 W. Kearney previously mentioned, they have two locations in Springfield, one in Nixa and one in Branson.
