Rep. Emery to head immigration reform committee
April 12, 2006
Jefferson City – Representative Rod Jetton (R-Marble Hill), Speaker of the Missouri House, this week named Rep. Ed Emery (R-Lamar) as Chairman of the Special Committee on Immigration Reform. Speaker Jetton formed the committee to determine the future direction of Missouri’s immigration policy.

The recent debate in Congress over national immigration policies has put the issue in the minds of most Americans. A recent AP-Ipsos poll revealed immigration was a close second to the economy on the list of concerns for Americans. Thirteen percent of respondents indicated immigration was their top concern – four times the number who said that in January.

“I know residents in Missouri and in my district are concerned with this issue as are my colleagues and I in the House,” said Rep. Emery. “I look forward to examining our existing policies more closely to see if we can better protect the interests of our state. Our task will be a challenge and I am glad to be a part of the solution.”
