|The Joplin Police Department along with members of the Southwest Missouri DWI Taskforce and the support of MADD hosted a DWI checkpoint at the intersection of Zora and Range Line Road. The event took place from approximately 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on October 26-27, 2013. The goals of the checkpoint were to detect and apprehend impaired drivers, raise awareness to the dangers of driving while intoxicated or impaired and encourage people to seek alternate transportation when drinking.
The total number of drivers stopped was 1464. Twenty-one subjects were given field sobriety tests; one third of them didn't pass.Three possessions of marijuana were found. Thirteen were arrested. Twelve total tickets were issued along with 24 warnings.
The checkpoint was funded through a grant provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division.
