St. Patty's checkpoint results are announced

The Joplin Police Department along with members of the Southwest Missouri DWI Taskforce and the support of MADD hosted a DWI checkpoint on North Main near Ozark Christian College on Saturday, Mar. 15, 2014. The check point was in service from 9:45 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The goals of the checkpoint were to:

  1. Detect and apprehend impaired drivers

  2. Raise Awareness to the dangers of driving while intoxicated or impaired.

  3. Encourage people to plan events and alternate transportation accordingly.

Sixteen field sobriety test were conducted and six DWIs found. A total of 10 arrests were made including the discovery of marijuana possession. Of the 706 drivers contacted there were 40 warnings given and a total of 29 tickets issued

This checkpoint was funded through a grant grant provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division.
