St. Patty's checkpoint results are announced

The Joplin Police Department along with members of the Southwest Missouri DWI Taskforce and the support of MADD hosted a DWI checkpoint on North Main near Ozark Christian College on Saturday, Mar. 15, 2014. The check point was in service from 9:45 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.
The goals of the checkpoint were to:
- Detect and apprehend impaired drivers
- Raise Awareness to the dangers of driving while intoxicated or impaired.
- Encourage people to plan events and alternate transportation accordingly.
Sixteen field sobriety test were conducted and six DWIs found. A total of 10 arrests were made including the discovery of marijuana possession. Of the 706 drivers contacted there were 40 warnings given and a total of 29 tickets issued
This checkpoint was funded through a grant grant provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division.
