| JOPLIN(SNS) - Leonard Slatkin, music director of the National Symphony Orchestra, was presented with the Fine Arts Radio International® 2003 Lifetime Achievement Award Friday, June 4, at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
Representing Fine Arts Radio International®, general manager Jeffrey D. Skibbe (pictured right) presented Maestro Slatkin (pictured left) the Crystal Flame Award on behalf of the Klassix Society, the Friends of 88.7KXMS/Fine Arts Radio International, citing Slatkin's participation in the 2002 radio series "The National Symphony Orchestra with Leonard Slatkin." Also cited were his many initiatives and accomplishments on behalf of classical music education.
Mr. Slatkin is the fourth recipient of the crystal trophy signifying exceptional contribution to music education. Since 2000, Karl Haas, Peter Schickele, and Martin Bookspan also have been lauded for distinguished music education accomplishments in the medium of radio.
