JOPLIN - The Chart, student newspaper of Missouri Southern State University, captured third place in the Best of Show competition at the Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Advisers national convention. The announcement was made on November 2, 2008.

"We are all excited about the award," said T.R. Hanrahan, Chart publications manager. *This is the highest The Chart has placed in this competition since 2000, when the paper took second place."

The Best of Show competition is judged during the convention weekend beginning October 31 and includes papers from across the US. Schools submit one issue published during the current school year. The Chart submitted the October 24 issue.

"The staff worked really hard on that issue," said Alexandra Nicolas, Chart editor-in-chief. "It was the biggest issue of the semester in terms of pages and we are also quite proud of the content. We hope to build on this award and do well this spring at the Missouri College Media Association convention and awards in St. Louis."
