MSSU Fire Academy announces next training session
May 26, 2010
JOPLIN - The Missouri Southern Fire Academy will hold training sessions from August 23 to Dec. 17, 2010, in Room 141 of the Criminal Justice Center on the Missouri Southern State University campus. Classes will be held from 6-10 p.m., Monday and Wednesday evenings and from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on six Saturdays throughout the semester.

"Missouri Southern's Academy has continually had one of the highest pass rates in the state," said Brenda L. Spurlin, administrative secretary. "The majority of career firefighters hired in Jasper County have graduated from Missouri Southern's Fire Academy in addition to professional firefighters who volunteer to serve their communities from four different states."

The MSSU Fire Academy is the only fire academy in the state that includes Firefighter I, Hazardous Material Awareness, Firefighter II, Hazardous Material Operations, Rope Rescue I, Vehicle Rescue, Emergency Vehicle Operations and more.

"Two of the last three academies have filled to capacity so it is imperative to pre-register now to obtain placement in the upcoming session," Spurlin said.

The cost for the fire academy is $850 and includes books, materials, and equipment. For registration or additional information contact Spurlin at (417) 625-9328 or e-mail her here.
