88.7/KXMS radio to add pop music s-smith
Updated: 2011-09-14 14:02:18
JOPLIN - Beginning Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, 88.7/KXMS Fine Arts Radio International, a cultural resources and community service of Missouri Southern State University, will present something new and decidedly different from 2-5 p.m. each Friday afternoon during the fall semester.

"Fridays" is the title of a series of shows that will be programmed and hosted by two students--Clint DeNisco, a junior mass communications major from Mt. Vernon and Kimiya Simpson, a freshman mass communications major from Joplin. Both students are well-versed in a wide range of pop music genres from The Beatles to hip-hop, and they will bring their individual takes on music to new audiences.

"We have discussed this type of programming for some years now," says KXMS general Manager Jeffrey Skibbe. "As KXMS Radio moves into its 26th year of service to the Joplin/Pittsburg market, "Fridays" will bring a new musical perspective to our area."

Competing historically against only the other noncommercial university radio stations vying for audiences in the radio market, "Fridays" will enable 88.7/KXMS to serve commercial music radio listeners for the very first time.
