Students are named to MSSU Honors Program
April 29, 2012
JOPLIN - Almost three dozen high school students participated in the annual Honors Program Signing Ceremony that took place on April 27, 2012, at Missouri Southern State University. The program is intended to encourage academic excellence by providing special opportunities and challenges for exceptional students.

Beginning with the first semester of their freshman year, Honors students participate in specially-designated classes. Because admission is selective and competitive, these classes are smaller and often more discussion-oriented than regular classes, permitting students greater and more intensive interaction with the honors directors, their instructors and their peers.

Completing the experience with service learning, international study, independent studies and a capstone senior thesis project, the program provides students the opportunity to build an ideal university experience. Honors students are held to the highest standards of academic performance, but are not in competition with one another. Instead, an atmosphere of openness, cooperation, and intellectual adventure enables Honors students to inspire and challenge one another.

Outstanding high school seniors, qualified homeschoolers and students with up to two years of college course work may apply. Application details are available here. Missouri Southern is a member of the Great Plains Regional Honors Council and the National Collegiate Honors Council.
