| There's nothing like a good movie. Join the audience of "Movies Through the Decades," a selection of iconic films, one for each decade from the 1930s to the present that will be offered free to the public by Missouri Southern State University in celebration of its 75th anniversary. They will be shown in Phelps Theater on the bottom floor of the Billingsly Student Center on campus in Joplin.
The series will open on August 30, 2012, at 6 p.m. and September 1, 2012, at 1 p.m. with the 1939 release of Gone with the Wind starring Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara and Clark Gable as Rhett Butler who carry on a turbulent love affair in the American South during the Civil War and Reconstruction. The movie, considered by many as the best epic picture of all time, is based upon Margaret Mitchell's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. Butler is known for the line, "Frankly, Scarlett, I don't give a damn."
Other films will be shown at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the following dates:

- Oct. 11, 2012 - Some Like it Hot (1959)
- Nov. 15, 2012 - Psycho (1960)
- Jan. 24, 2013 - The Godfather (1972)
- Feb. 21, 2013 - Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
- March 28, 2013 - Ninja Turtles (1990)
- April 18, 2013 - Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Rings (2001)
- May 9, 2013 - The Hobbit (To be released in December 2012)
