| The Environmental Protection Agency has come up with a clever way of documenting a pollution-free environment. By appealing to photographers, amateur or otherwise, the agency is asking for the submission of photos that apparently are an attempt to show how the EPA's mission to protect human health and the environment is working with finalist and winning photos to be featured on the EPA's website.
Has your community organization cleaned up a stream? Have you enjoyed a day in the woods? Has a wild animal sparked your imagination?, they ask.
They are looking for photos that illustrate three categories:
- Enjoying the environment
- Protecting the environment
- Nature and wildlife [no doubt vibrant and abundant]
"What's that green stuff floating in the water, Daddy?" obviously is not what the EPA is looking for.
To encourage participation and provide maximum public access, the contest will be hosted on the photo sharing site Flickr.com. People around the world are encouraged to enter.
The contest will run as follows:
- March 24: entries due
- April 1: Finalists announced, public voting for winners begins
- April 15: voting ends
- April 22 (Earth Day): winners announced
