| The fourth annual Tour de Tick sponsored by the Neosho Lions Club will take place beginning at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2008, with check-in at the Freeman Southwest Family YMCA, adjacent to Crowder College in Neosho. The three-part event attracts bicycle riders of all ages and abilities. The routes in brief include:
- The Deer Tick Tour, a 26.5 mile ride to the Undercliff Restaurant at Tipton Ford and back to the YMCA
- The Wood Tick Tour, a 62-mile ride continuing from the Undercliff Restaurant over back roads to south Joplin, on to the Kansas/Oklahoma/Missouri border (Statline Rd.), down to Seneca and back to the YMCA
- The Dog Tick Tour, a 100-mile ride that follows the Wood Tick Tour but just before Seneca goes south into McDonald County, through the cities of Goodman, Newtonia and Stark City, then back to the YMCA
Depending upon the length of the ride selected participants will follow the "Old Scenic Route," a road built by the Work Projects Administration during the Great Depression; pass one of the last round barns in Missouri, the old Reddings Mill Inn and the Reddings Mill Bridge reputed to have bullet holes in it when the Missouri Highway Patrol shot at Bonnie and Clyde, the infamous Spooklight Museum and Spooklight area; and catch a glimse of the Netonia battlefields area. In addition, maps will be given out pinpointing the dogwoods in bloom.
The tours are on paved county roads and state highways with normal traffic. Appropriate safety should be observed.
Mobile SAG vehicles will be following the routes. Water stations with energy bars will be available for participants of the 100-mile ride.
The fee for pre-registering before April 18 is $25 per person or $60 for immediate family members. Registration also will take place at 7 a.m. on April 19 at the Y. The fee then will be $30 per person.
Proceeds will benefit the Neosho Lions Club. All registered will receive a tee shirt.
