Birding event hopes to draw a large crowd staff
Updated: 2008-04-16 15:10:54
Noppadol ("Nopp") Paothong, former photographer for the Joplin Globe and now a photographer for the Missouri Department of Conservation Wildlife, will be the keynote speaker at Birdfest 2008, Feathers in Flight. His talk will take place from 7:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2 and from 1-1:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2008. The fee for attending each or both of his talks held at the Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center in Wildcat Park, Joplin is $15 and includes other events that do not require additional transportation costs.

This Eastern Blue Bird was captured by nature photographer Noppadol Paothong. Other examples of his work may be found here.

The three day event that concludes on May 3 will include a live bird program; excursions to Roaring River State Park, Prairie State Park and other area hot spots for viewing birds and bird habitats; birding seminars, an owl prowl, hummingbird banding and other educational family activities.

Bird lovers are reminded that Missouri is fortunate to have more than 400 different documented species with 150 regularly nesting here and others migrating between nesting grounds to the north and wintering grounds to the south. The event capitalizes on the springtime when bird watching and enjoying the Missouri outdoors is at its best.

A website found here contains information on accomodations for out of town guests, a complete schedule of events and associated fees.
