Mail carrier food collection is not enough staff
Updated: 2008-05-15 17:54:36
Southwest Missouri raised over 38,900 pounds of food, but Valerie Searcy, a spokesperson for the United Way of Southwest Missouri, says that, although the amount is greater than last year's, it is not enough.

Benefiting from the food drive on May 10, 2008, in which participants left non-perishable items by their mailboxes for carrier pick-up were in Joplin: the Developmental Center (formerly the CP Center), 1001 32nd St.; City of Refuge Ministries, 502 E. 7th St. (624-5773); Crosslines, 131 S. High Ave. (782-8384); Lafayette House, 1809 S. Connor (782-1772); Salvation Army, 320 E. 8th St. (624-4528); Souls Harbor, 915 S. Main St. (623-4358); St. Peter's, 812 S. Pearl (623-8643); We Care of the Four States, 6863 E. Newman Rd. (625-1600) and the Wildwood Southern Baptist Church, 4827 E. 20th St. (623-6466).

Joplin led participating cities with 19,455 pounds of food collected. Other cities that participated were Carl Junction (800), Carterville (500), Carthage (4220), El Dorado Springs (2000), Goodman (478), Neosho (4540), Nevada (2500), Seneca (500) and Webb City (4000).

Additional donations may be made directly to the agencies. Call for details.
