Missouri now boasts official dessert staff
Updated: 2008-07-18 08:50:27
Amazingly, it took more than six months for the legislation (SB 991) to pass the Missouri State Legislature. But with the National Ice Cream Day, July 20, 2008, just days away, Governor Matt Blunt signed the bill that designates the ice cream cone as Missouri's official state dessert. And the amendment known as section 10.180 to chapter 10, RSMo seems to have come without the addition of a main course, otherwise popular in the state, pork.

Student sponsors of the bill will be sharing anecdotes about the bill's "rocky road" to passage from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 19 at the Missouri History Museum Library and Research Center, 225 S. Skinker, Forest Park. Open to the public, the event will feature free hourly drawings for gift cards redeemable at a local ice cream parlor.

For the background on the endeavor to make the ice cream cone the official state dessert, go here.
