| The results of the 2009 annual National Association of Letter Carriers National Food Drive has been announced. This year Southwest Missourians placed over 32,500 pounds of food at their mailboxes on May 9. The weather was blamed for the decrease in contributions from 2008 totals, according to Valerie Searcy, director of the United Way of Southwest Missouri.
Local food banks that benefited from the 32,500 pounds of food collected were CP Center, City of Refuge, Crosslines, Lafayette House, Salvation Army and Souls Harbor. Area totals in pounds were: Carl Junction, 500; Carthage, 2481; Carterville, 100; Diamond, 313; El Dorado Springs, 2885; Goodman, 416; Joplin, 13,826; Lamar, 1100; Neosho, 3719; Nevada, 315-0; Sarcoxie, 547; Seneca, 500 and Webb City, 2000.
