Rural schools of Greene County are documented staff
Updated: 2009-09-19 11:09:20
About an eight minute photographic tour of rural schools of Greene County with musical background may be found here.

David L. Burton, civic communications specialist for the University of Missouri Extension introduces the film clip which illustrates the schools as part of a Greene County Extension project begun in 1997. Of the 124 schools 59 are still standing in some form: as community centers, barns, storage facilities, are empty or as homes.

A map illustrating a self-guided driving tour of the schools may be found here.

To order Burton's book, A History of the Rural Schools of Greene County, MO go here. The cost for an 8.5x11 soft-bound book or a compact CD is $20 each. Both include a brief history of every rural school in Greene County, information on African-American schools, general history of rural education, photos of the schools either preserved or deteriorated and a driving tour map.
