| The 2009-10 Pro Musica-Joplin concert series has been announced. The series supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Missouri Arts Council is free to the public with the exception of the symphony and PoPs performances; however, donations are gratefully accepted.
Pro Musica-Joplin was founded 28-years ago in order to foster appreciation of classical music for citizens of the four-state area. The cultural outreach extends to local schools as well as to the social service, civic and business communities.
The 2009-10 schedule includes:
- Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 at 7 p.m., Ozark Christian College Chapel, 1111 N. Main St.: American Brass Quintet
- Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, 7 p.m., First Community Church, 2007 E. 15th St.: Zemlinsky Quartet
- Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, 7 p.m., Corley Auditorium of Webster Hall, Missouri Southern State University: Gabriel Cabezas, cello; Andrew Tyson, piano
- Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, 7 p.m., St. Peter's Catholic Church, 812 Pearl: Harlem Quartet
- Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, 9:30 p.m., The Kitchen Pass, 1212 S. Main St.; cover charge collected at door: Harlem Quartet in a non-traditional concert
- Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, 7:30 p.m., Taylor Performing Arts Center, Missouri Southern State University, 3950 E. Newman: Philharmonia of the Nations. Patron tickets are $70 each for pre-concert buffet, premium seating and program listing; $20 each ($17 senior/student) for general seating and $10 each for balcony seating. Tickets are available at the MSSU campus card center in Billingsly, Ernie Williamson Music and the Pro Musica office at 211 S. Main, Suite 312.
- Friday, March 5, 2010, 7 p.m., Central Christian Center, 410 Virginia: Ensemble Galilei; the performance will include their program A Universe of Dreams, classical and traditional Celtic music, with images from the Hubble Space Telescope projected onto a large screen and readings by Neal Conan, Host of NPR's Talk of the Nation.
- Thursday, April 8, 2010, 7 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 509 S. Pearl: Mozartean Players
- Friday, June 25, 2010, 8 p.m., on the Oval, Missouri Southern State University; tickets are $12.50 in advance, $15 at the gate and children 12 and under are free; if weather cooperates the audience is encouraged to bring a picnic supper; in case of rain event will be held indoors: Summit Brass
