An on the job training program to help employees learn new skills has been introduced by the Joplin-based Economic Security Corporation of the Southwest Area. The agency serves Barton, Jasper, Newton and McDonald counties.
The employer who agrees to the program, conducted at the actual work site, and who promises to provide a salary equivalent to that of similar positions will be reimbursed for expenses incurred in training and for initial hours worked by the new employee. After successfully completing the designated training period, Economic Security anticipates that the applicant will remain on the job.
Benefits to the employer include:
- Candidates are selected from a pool of pre-screened applicants
- Minimal paperwork and reduced training costs
- Timely reimbursement
- "Hands on" training tailored to meet the company's needs
- Potential eligibility to receive tax credits up to $9,000 per hire
