The expense or impracticality of attending workshops has been alleviated by the scheduling of workshops over the telephone or online. A webinar refers to a specific type of web conferencing that allows speaker to mingle with an audience, usually with limited audience participation but not necessarily the case.

For those who wish an interactive environment for learning about medical issues from the convenience of their homes or offices, non-profit organizations like CancerCare and the ALS Association have set up webinars and teleconferences. The following has been scheduled:

February 11 at 12:30-1:30 p.m. CST: A free Connect Workshop from Cancercare will discuss Advances in the Treatment of Breast Cancer. Speakers include Ruth Oratz, MD; Generosa Grana, MD, Harold J. Burstein, MD, PhD; and Patricia Spicer, MSW. Phone 1-800-813-4673 for more details.

February 11 at 4 p.m. CST: A free audio teleconference call will be conducted by Robert G. Miller, MD, neurologist and lead author of the American Academy of Neurology's amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
