A splash of blue

It's hard not to notice how Joplin curbsides have become splashed with color as residents procrastinate removal of the new blue trash polycarts. It's also understandable. The 96-gallon carts empty are annoying to remove....especially if people have the "weight of the world" on their shoulders. And although residents were given the option of requesting a substitute 65-gallon polycart, few did.
Now the city of Joplin is reminding everyone of "city codes and etiquette associated with the carts." They include:
- The polycarts and bulky items shall not be placed out for collection until the regularly scheduled collection day or the evening before.
- All polycarts shall be removed from the curbside or alley to the residential premises within 12 hours of the day of collection. Empty polycarts cannot be left on the street, sidewalk or public right-of-ways.
No mention was made of penalties in the announcement by Mary Anne Phillips, Joplin recycling coordinator.
