Fullerton is new MSSU vice president staff

Darren Fullerton, pictured, the year-long MSSU interim vice president, has been appoint vice president for student affairs at Missouri Southern State University-Joplin, according to an announcement by President Bruce W. Speck recently.

The position of vice president for student affairs was newly established in 2010. Previously, Glenn Dolence had served as vice president for student services until his retirement in 1996.

Fullerton who served as director of student life since July 2009 has been at Missouri Southern since 1999. He holds a Master of Education in recreation administration and management from the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor of Science in physical education from Southern.

Fullerton's experience includes having taught and served as the associate director of recreational sports at the University of Arkansas and director of campus recreation at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. His experience in community organizations includes chairman of the board of directors for the local American Red Cross, regiment leader and MSSU campaign chair for the United Way of Southwest Missouri, president of the Carl Junction Youth Athletic Booster Club and board member of the Carl Junction Youth Athletic Association. He has received the Clara Barton Award, the highest award the American Red Cross bestows on volunteers.
