AmeriCorps continues to assist in recovery effort staff
Updated: 2011-07-22 16:18:02
Joplin and the surrounding area is benefiting from the services of three teams of AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) members. They are working with FEMA on disaster case management in Jasper and Newton Counties and with the Jasper County Long Term Recovery Committee to assist local survivors of the April floods and May tornado with acquiring the help needed. The NCCC teams will be here until July 30, 2011.

The corps members are calling on survivors that are registered with FEMA, setting up individual meetings with them, collecting information to assess their needs and helping them connect with the myriad of local resources available. The teams then are passing on the information to FEMA case workers that further provide assistance by inputting data into the CAN (Coordinated Assistance Network) so that other organizations, such as The Red Cross and the Salvation Army, can better provide their services.
