Dog days of summer and dogs, dogs, dogs
May 08, 2012
An inaugural Dogs In Downtown event, the largest pet-friendly family festival hosted in 2012 in Joplin, has been announced by Way Beyond Events, LLC. It will take place in Landreth Park from 3-11 p.m. on Friday, June 15 and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the construction of the Parr Hill Dog Park, now in its early stages.

Featured will be DockDogs that the sponsor has described as, “the World's premier canine aquatics competition where you can have the most fun with your dogs!” This show tours across the United States with dogs competing in four events for everyone's entertainment. Events include “Big Air,” “Speed Retrieve,” “Extreme Vertical” and “Iron Dog.” An open division allows for event patrons’ pets to showcase their abilities in the competition.

The event also will include: nightly concerts with 80’s pop icon, Tiffany, as the head liner for Friday night; everyone’s favorite festival fare; kids’ area with inflatables, petting zoo, and various activities; market vendors from across the four state region and the Mutt Strut 1K – fun event for the whole family and their pets.

"The focus of Way Beyond Events is to bring key attractions into the community and provide a fun, entertaining environment for all ages," said Lindsey Osborn, managing partner. "We strive to create opportunities to bring the community together."

Bracelets for the two-day admission are available for purchase in advance until June 14, 2012 for $8. Bracelets sold at the gate will be $7 for a one-day admission and $12 for a two-day admission.
