Controversial remark about rape "If it is a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

---by U.S. Rep. Todd Akin who said that "legitimate rape" victims don't get pregnant based upon a vague reference to what "doctors" have reported ("The Jaco Report," KTVI Fox News St. Louis, Aug. 19, 2012). Akin is a staunch pro-lifer running against Democratic incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskell.
