"Listening Sessions" designed to gather information to help the Missouri Department of Transportation determine priorities for Missouri's transportation system into the future are scheduled for March 5, 2013, in Joplin, and March 7, 2013, in Springfield.

This public engagement effort known as "On the Move" is part of MoDOT's process to update its long-range transportation plan. Over the next several months, MoDOT will seek direction from Missourians in listening sessions, a mobile tour and virtual forums

The Joplin Listening Session co-hosted by Rob O'Brian, president of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, and will take place from 4-6 p.m. at the administration building of Joplin Public Schools, 3901 E. 32nd St. Jim Anderson, president of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce will co-host the Springfield session to be held from 4-6 p.m. in the conference room of the Springfield-Branson National Airport, 2300 N. Airport Blvd. (north of Route EE and west of Springfield). For the Joplin session RSVP by noon on Monday, Mar. 4 and for the Springfield session RSVP by noon on Wednesday, Mar. 6 by sending an e-mail here. Designate which session you plan to attend.

Leaders in business, local government and community organizations will be participants along with the general public. The Listening Sessions will feature information about the existing transportation system and will offer participants a chance to provide their views during small-group discussions. Becky Baltz, district engineer for MoDOT's Southwest District, will give a short presentation.

Seating is limited for the sessions. However, interested parties may submit their views by going here.
