| The Joplin Enforcers Football Team will be taking on the Springfield Guns in the 2nd Annual Battle of the Badges Football Game, benefiting the Tim Nielson Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Terry Tyler Memorial Fund. The rivalry will take place on March 23, 2013, at Fred G. Hughes Stadium on the campus of Missouri Southern State University. Tickets are $10; ages 12 and under are free.
The Tim Nielson Memorial Scholarship was set up in the memory of Officer Tim Nielson and is available to high school graduates who wish to pursue a career in law enforcement or criminal justice. Officer Tim Nielson was a police officer for the city of Joplin who was tragically killed in the line of duty in 2004.
The Terry Tyler Memorial Fund was created in the memory of Deputy Terry Tyler. Tyler was a member of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, a loving father, and devoted husband.
Starting at 1 p.m. the Family Fun Fest begins in the stadium parking lot and includes face painting for the kids, fire and police vehicles on display and many more activities. The game will begin at 3 p.m.
"The Enforcers will prove, once more, that they are willing to go beyond the call of duty and take on the Springfield Guns for fun and charity," said Cpl. Chuck Niess.
The Joplin team is comprised of members of the Joplin Police Department, Joplin Fire Department, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Carl Junction Fire Department, Miami Police Department, and the Oronogo Police Department. It is sponsored by the Southwest Missouri Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #27, Missouri Southern State University, Food 4 Less, Oklahoma Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #121, and Qdoba Mexican Grill.
