Holcus spot is seen in cornfields

Holcus spot, identified by round to elliptical spots ranging from 2-10mm. in diameter, have been seen in local cornfields, according to Jill Scheidt, agronomy specialist in her July 10 Southwest Missouri field crop report. Lesions first appear water-soaked and later become white to tan and eventually dry and brown. Mistaken for herbicide damage, holcus spot usually is not severe and may be controlled by crop rotation and tillage although they are not very effective because of the broad host range of the problem.
