|The 30th Annual Five-State Photography Competition and Exhibition has been announced by the Hays (KS) Arts Council. Cash awards totaling $1500 will be divided among entry winners from Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma in three categories: nature, people and open. The deadline for submitting an entry form is November 8, 2013, three days before the work must be received at the gallery. The opening show and reception held at the Hays Arts Council, 112 E. 11th St., Hays, Kansas, is slated for December 6, 2013.
A fee of $20 will allow the entry of two photographs with up to two additional entries allowed for a fee of $5 each. Checks must be made out to the Hays Art Council. All work may be for sale with a commission of 33 1/3 percent owed to the council.
Judging the competition will be Daniel W. Coburn, assistant professor of photo media the the University of Kansas. Coburn holds a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico where he also served as director of the John Sommers Gallery. His work has been featured in exhibitions at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, the Chelsea Museum in New York, and the International Festival of Photography in Brazil.
