Pittsburg U. grad awarded SKIL internship

PARSONS, KS--Marlena Wallsingham Nivens was chosen for a 10-week post-graduate internship in human resources at SKIL Resource Center, Inc. A December 2013 graduate of Pittsburg State University, Nivens earned a degree in psychology with an emphasis on human relations.

Under the direction of Susan Schulze, human resources manager at SKI, a non-profit agency that provides services to Kansans with disabilities, Nivens will gain experience in end-of-year processes including health care enrollment and employee benefit and income reporting. After the first of the year, she will assist in data collection, insurance issues, employment and orientation processes and payroll processes.

We are extremely pleased that Mrs. Nivens has accepted this internship in non-profit human resources development," said Dave Sorrick, director of development and special projects for SKIL. "Marlena has been employed on a part-time basis in our Pittsburg, KS operations while completing her formal education at Pitt State. She has held a variety of positions in retail sales, radio sales, and radio promotions and we are excited to offer her this opportunity to join us at our main location in Parsons to learn more about the core personnel practices of our non-profit agency.

Nivens resides in Pittsburg, KS with her husband Brandon and their son Jordan. She will continue to work on a part-time basis with promotions at the SKIL Media Group which includes KSEK-FM and AM in Pittsburg and KLKC-FM and AM in Parsons.
