43rd Joplin Police Academy is announced

The fall session of the Citizens Police Academy will begin on August 21, 2014, and be held every Thursday evening for 12 weeks, according to an announcement by the Joplin Police Department. The free program targets people in the area who want a hands-on, interactive, behind-the-scenes look at local law enforcement shared by experienced officers offering their unique perspective. The classes will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., concluding on November 13, 2014, with a graduation ceremony and dinner. The classes, limited to approximately 25 participants, will be held at various locations throughout Joplin.

Topics covered will include an introduction to the K9 unit and use of force, procedures for investigating crime scenes, narcotics, child abuse and traffic crashes, as well as conducting vehicle stops, SWAT operations and DWI enforcement.
