Spiva Center for the Arts adds assistant director

The Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin has a new staff member. Kerstin Landwer, pictured, became an assistant director effective June 1, 2015, according to an announcement by Spiva Director Jo Mueller.

Landwer is not new to the promotion of art and Spiva. She served on the Spiva Board of Directors as both vice president and president and was involved in promoting the Cultural Affaairs Committee of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce. In a volunteer capacity she was also a development and volunteer associate for the Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center. Prior to that, she was the executive director of development for the American Red Cross Greater Ozarks Chapter and membership and human resources director for the Joplin Family Y.

A board member of Soroptimist International of Joplin, a volunteer service organization for business and professional women dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world, she recently completed a second term as mayor of Cliff Village, a village of about 50 residents in Newton County that is part of the Joplin Metropolitan Statistical Area.

A graduate of Nixa High School, Landwer received a B.A. in psychology from Drury University in 1991. Currently, Landwer operates Sweetbrier Desings LLc, a flea market type business that, according to its Facebook page, sells a little bit of whimsy.
