Akin opposes govenment-run healthcare

Washington, DC- Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO), a vocal critic against the government takeover of healthcare, reiterated his strong opposition to socializing healthcare in America regardless of any so-called "opt out" provisions.

Congressman Akin noted that giving states the alternative of "opting out" of the proposed public option is a misnomer in the sense that is does not insulate the residents of state form increased taxation, Medicare cuts and overall drag on the U.S. economy.

"The recent proposal by Senate Majority Leader Reid seems to me more of a distraction than a substantive change to the proposal for government run healthcare.

"The proposal for the opt-out for States is not an actual one in the sense that it cannot protect residents of any state from the economic backlash of higher taxes, Medicare cuts and the overall drag on the national economy that such a socialization of medicine would entail....."
