Help is needed in capturing Select Jewelers robber
March 20, 2016
UPDATE: Witnesses reported he was wearing a red bandana. A video of him from an adjoining store, walking left to right on the sidewalk towards Select Jewelers to commit an armed robbery during which he fired a shot, shows it was actually a red baseball hat turned backwards. We also believe he was wearing a long sleeve black shirt underneath the white t-shirt. Any assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated. The investigation is on-going.

Original Release

On March 17th at approximately 5:37 PM an armed robbery occurred at Select Jewelers at 3120 S. Main. A male suspect showed a handgun before firing a round through the wall of the store. It was later determined to have passed through the wall into Schlotzkys. The male suspect ran on foot south across 32nd street through traffic to Walgreens before fleeing in a vehicle.

The suspect was described was a white or hispanic male of average build and average height wearing a red bandana, white shirt, blue jeans and black work boots. At this time we believe he left the area in a 90's large silver SUV, possibly a Chevy Suburban, with a thin red stripe along the bottom. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

There were no injuries in this incident and the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry. Anybody with any information in this case should contact the Joplin Police Department at (417) 623-3131. The investigation is on-going.
