| The Webb City Farmer's Market in cooperation with University of Missouri Extension is offering two home food preservation classes.
The first class on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 will include information on the basics of home food preservation including pressure canning, boiling water bath canning and freezing of produce. Be prepared to move to the kitchen and participate in the process of pressure canning green beans or another garden vegetable from fresh-picked to sealed in the jars. This class is designed for the beginning canner and lasts approximately two and a half hours.
Class two on Tuesday, July 28 will concentrate on foods that are processed in a boiling water bath. Participants will experience making a batch of jam or jelly and pickles. We will also discuss drying of foods. This class lasts approximately two hours.
Classes will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 5 Pennsylvania Ave., Webb City. Class starts at 6 p.m. on both evenings.
Tammy Roberts, nutrition and health education specialist for University of Missouri Extension, will be the instructor. Minimum class size is five with a maximum of 25. The fee for attending a class is $10 per person or $15 for any person that registers for both classes. Market information
The Webb City Farmer's Market is held every Saturday through October from 9 a.m. until about noon. It is located one block west of the Neosho downtown square, in the parking lot next to the Berger Block Building at the intersection of Jefferson and Spring.
