June 07, 2013
The wait is over. Schifferdecker Family Aquatic Center will open tomorrow, Saturday, June 8, 2013, and continue with daily hours from 1-6 p.m. Featured are a lazy river, lap pool, five slides, a deck mounted play structure and water sprays. The project was made possible through funding from the parks and stormwater 1/4-cent sales tax that Joplin voters renewed in 2011.

Admission for the aquatic park located on the southwest corner of 4th Street and Schifferdecker Avenue in Joplin is $5 for adults (16 and older) and $4 for children (15 and younger). Children, aged 2 and under will be admitted for free. A 50% reduced rate seasonal pass will be offered for residents living within the city limits of Joplin who receive financial assistance like WIC, food stamps, Medicaid or MO HealthNet Managed Care. Passes for the 2013 may be purchased at the Joplin Athletic Complex, 33001 W. 1st Street. (Phone: 417-625-4750). Everyone can take advantage of half-off admission every Friday from 6-8 p.m. In addition a morning lap swim will be offered from 7 a.m. to noon for $1.50 per person or free with a season pass.

The city also is offering free swims at Schifferdecker from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesdays. Cunningham Pool is free on Mondays from 4-6 p.m. and Ewert Pool is free Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3 p.m.

Private pool parties are available from 6:30-:30 p.m. at Schifferdecker for $200 per hour for the entire facility, or $125 per hour for just the lazy river area or the competition pool and at Cunningham for $125 per hour.
